THE ARCADE.

Mr. P. Sidey^s new arcade in Mannersstreet was lighted np for the first time on Saturday night, when it was thrown open to public inspection, the result being that probably two or thr* thousand persons paid it a visit. As the large central sunlight was not completed, the illumination necessarily was only partial, still it was brilliant enough for all

ordinary purposes, showing that when the arrangements shall be finished, the lighting will be something auite unique in Wellington. As it was, the excellence of the general design, even to the smaller details, elicited expressions of warm admiration on ail sides, and there is no doubt that when the arcade is fairly open, it will become a most popular institution, both for business and as a lounge. Its central position, as regards the population of the city, tells immensely in its favor, and the neighborhood is increasing so rapidly in commercial importance, that we anticipate a great " run " on the stalls.
