Sir George Grey gave notice that, in the event of Mr. Rees' motion for a committee to inquire into the land transactions in Hawke's Bay being carried, he should move that it be an instruction to the committee to investigate the charges made against him (Sir George) by Mr. Ormond, relative to the block of land in the Patea district, of which it was stated that he was to have a share in consideration of his influence as Governor being used to promote the interests of a company of capitalists. The adjourned debate on Mr. Rees' motion was then resumed by Mr. Cox, who proceeded to explain his share in the Russell-Locke letter affair * ———_—_———
