Sir— ln the issue of your paper of the oth inst. I see that Mr. Fox is reported, on the meetiug of the House of Representatives on that day, to have asked the Minister of Justice, " whether he intended to direct a prosecution against the defendants" in the case "Hacker, v. Forbes, Dalrymple and C 0.," lately tried at the Resident Magistrate's Court at Masterton. I shall feel obliged if you will give publicity to the following facts :— At the time of the transaction out of wluch this case arose, Mr. Dalrymple had the management of the Masterton, I of the Carterton branoh of the late firm, Forbes, D,alryinple and Co. The instructions for the sale were received by Mr. Dalrymple, the whole transaction was conducted by him, and I did not know the particulars of the case until they were brought out in the course of the evidence given at the trial.
