AUCKLAND. 26th July.
The City Council has resolved to push on their contracts, so as to give work to the unemployed. An iron steamer, built at Mr. Hawkeswood's foundry, has made a most successful trial trip. Gouk and Cardon's tender of £1400 for the repair of the Go- Ahead, has been accepted. Mr. George Browne died at Rotorua from the effects of being scalded. Messrs. N. Edwards & Co. have sold th.eir Avondale run, in Marl borough, containing 62,00Q acres (one-third freehold), and 15,0.00 sheep, to Mr. Charles Tescheinaker for the sum. of £23,00 Q.
