THE OPERA.
Balpb's "Bohemian Girl." The Simonsen Company produced Balfe's pretty opera, "The Bohemian Girl," last night to a very full house. Madame Simonsen, as Arline, looked exceedingly well and acted capitally, while her singing was of the highest excellence, especially in the popular ballad, " I dreamt that I dwelt in marble halts," which was encored with enthusiasm. The new tenor, Mr, Charles made a most successful debut, and produced an impression so immediately favorable that he received an encore for his aria d'intrata, '* 'Tis sad to leave," which very rarely obtains such a compliment. His voice is a tenor of light timbre, but possessing great resonance iv the upper register, and much sweetness of tone throughout. He sang and acted very creditably last night, and if he persevere in the study of his art we believe he has a brilliant future in store. His " When other lips " was excellently given, and elicited a most vociferous encore. In ''The fair Land of Poland " he was hardly so happy, but his best effort of all was in the lovely duet with Madame Simonsen, "The secret of her birth," which deserved an encore, as did also the charming quartet, "From the valleys aud hills." Mr. Richardson, deserves very warm praise for his admirable delivery of the Count's music, especially in the favorite ballad,
