A deputation of potters waited on the Superintendent, and represented that they had been unsuccessful in obtaining employment, and that they were starving. They prayed for assistance. The Superintendent made a proposal that as they numbered seventy souls they should found a special settlement. ' He offered them facilities for settling on land. The Customs revenue here for March is £99,852, against £100,705 same month last year. For the three quarters of the present financial year, £276,106, against £277,495 of 1874-5. Allan and> Stumbles are the successful tenderers for the Kakanui Harbor AVorks, at, £140,840 An inquiry is to be instituted into the alleged truck system -on the Northern Railway. • :- . 7 . . • . , , ,
