( FROM OWN CORRESPONDENT.) DUNEDIN. Bth January.
At the Clutha competition, the follow* ing magnificent scores were made : — 200 j yards- Willcox, 28; Anderson, 24. 400 yards : Willcox, 26 ; Anderson, 27. 5.00 yards : Willcox, 25 ; Anderson, 25. 600 yards : Willcox, 25 ; Anderson 21 ;— out of a possible 112. The Star says that Ireland is likely to retire from the Wakai contest, and that Thomson will .-be re-elected for Clutha, but if Sir J. Vogel arrives in iime to pursue "the canvass, he would beat him. It also gives Steward and Hislop (provincialists) as the probable men for Waitaki. Both sides are working very hard at the Port. Reynolds will have a majority at the Port, but Green expects Blueskin and the surrounding districts to put him in. The Times, in a series of articles, Bho ws how Vogel on his arrival will abandon his colleagues.. It is generally understood that Macandrew has received letters from Vogel, and that this accounts for the Times continuing to harp on the subject. » . .¦¦¦¦
