hiraself as a candidate far the Superin tendency, but the Lyttelton Times states upon authority that he does not intend to resume political life in any shape. There is great dissatisfaction existiug with the management of the railways. The Proviucial Government declined to go on with the Government business until it w*s ascertained where the fault exists, and adjourned last night until Thursday next, in order to enable a Select Committee to bring up a repoit upon the matter. The general impression is that the Government will be ousted. A meeting of the Central Boating Club will be held on next Thursday evening, to prepare a programme for the Interprovincial Regatta, and fix the date upon which it is to be held. Efforts are being made to alter the course from Kaiapoi to Heathcotej where it was held in 1871, but it is not likely to be successful. A public meeting last night decided to hold a regatta on the Heathcote about February. The strike of the carpenters is virtually over. All who struck ob* taiued work at the advanced rate of 11s, Some of the principal builders, however, rather than give the rate demanded, obtained men from Auckland, and have sent to sHobart Townfor 'more.
