The death of Mr. Pierre Joseph Pn v llion, nt Paris, is announced. He was born at Besangon. in 1809, of poor parents. At first a compositor, then a master printer, and engaged on the press, he became ultimately a profess d author of socialist works, which have made him notorious. He was the promulgator of the dictum '• Le Propriete e'est le Vol." Hia works, though at one time much read, hare, happily, not left any lasting results. The theories he promulgated were the dregs of the revolution of 1793. and more negative than creative in their ultimate effect. His style was, however, powerful, if not cultured. In 1849 he was sentenced, on account of his expressed opinions against the Emperor Nupoleon, then President, to imprisonment and a considerable fine. He went into 1 Mtile, but returning to Paris shortly afterwards suffered imprisonment till 1852, after which he was silent and unmarked till hii death.
