"TISH" ON SATURDAY
Down-to-earth screen fare with a romance running through it, introduces a new and hilarious comedy team to the public in "Tish", based on the beloved character created by Mary Roberts Rinehart, and which brings Marjorie Main to the screen as the redoubtable Letitia Carberry, with Zasu Pitts and Aline MacJVlahon as the two inseparable cronies with whom she gooes through her comical adventures. The picture will be screened at Southbridge Talkies on Saturday.
As head of the three feminine musketeers, Marjorie leads them into adventures ranging from being treed by a tame hear to a fishing trip which gets them capsized in a lake, following which they spend a night in gaol. She carries on a comical feud with Guy Kibbee, and there are many other merry moments throughout the story. -
Tish is a domineering spinster, who lives with her, nephew. He is in love with the daughter of the local' judge, but Tish and her cronies think he ought to be in love with another girl, and set a mirthful plot to further this romance. It gets them into all manner of complications. Then the other girl elopes with the boy she loves, there is a baby, and through a tangle of circumstances Tish adopts it. A comical climax straightens out the resultant tangle.
Marjorie Main with her gravel voice makes a perfect Tish, and the other two comediennes add much to the hilarity. Lee Bowman has a romantic role as the nephew, opposite beautiful Virginia Grey, and Richard Quine and Susan Peters are engaging young lovers. Guy Kibbee makes the most of his comedy opportunities, and Ruby Dandridge and Al Shean add further laughs. ' •
