Southbridge Sports

PROSPECTS OF REVIVAL

There are good prospects of the Southbridge Athletic Club being revived and a modified sports meeting held on the old date, Labour Day, this year.

The proposal was discussed at a meeting ,of members held on Wednesday evening, when the president, iJlr T. Habberjam, was in the chair. Although there was a small attendance, those present were unanimous in agreeing that the attempt to revive the sports meeting should be made. It was agreed that conditions did not permit the holding: of a full-scale athletic meeting, but that a picnic sports programme catering for local athletes and especially for the children, was not only practicable but likely to prove popular. The acting secretary, Mr T. J. Carter, explained the position of the finances. There was a bank balance of between £7 and £8, with £80 invested in war bonds. Twelve new members were elected. Notice of motion was given by Mr L. Ebert to rescind the resolution carried three or four years ago to , suspend sports activities until after the war. The annual meeting is to be called in about a fortnight's time, Friday, June 15, being selected. If the proposal to go on v/ith a sports meeting is approved, officers will be elected and a start made with the preparations for the fixture.

Mr Carter was thanked for the efficient way he had carried out the secretarial duties in the interim.
