FIELD DAY AT SOUTHBRIDGE
RESULTS OF JUDGING
The Southbridge Primary School Agricultural Club held its field day on Monday. Altogether 22 pets, 12 calves and 10 lambs, were paraded, and, judging by the appearance and behaviour of the pets, the youthful owners had bestowed much care and affection on them. The judges were Messrs F. Hannah (lambs) .and Mr N. Joyce, agricultural instructor (calves). Calves The calf awards were: Michael Wilkinson i Melville Neale 2 ! Boneta Kimber 3 Gwenneth Roberts 4 Merit: John Hampton, Edna Finlay, Mary Green, Kathleen Leybourne, Clifford Thomas, Nancy Dugan, Kenneth Love, Ronald Burt. Lambs
In the section for lambs the possible number of points was 75, _■' for weight for age, 25 for handling and 25 for type," and the awards were as follows: John Hampton 70 points 1, Edna Finlay 65 points 2, Maureen Carr 63 points 3, Jill Oliver 60 points 4. Ngaire Willis 58 points, Susan Heslop 55, David Ford 50, David McClelland 50, Margaret Willis 45.
After announcing the awards the judges addressed the pupils and others .assembled and congratulated the children on their efforts. The headmaster (Mr W. C. Eggelton)' thanked the children for the interest they had taken in their projects. The garden plots were judged by Miss I. Lewton and the placing were: Vegetables: Kenneth Love l, John Greenwood 2, John Hampton 3. Flowers: Llewellen Thomas 1, lsobel Claydon 2, Daphne Claydon 3
Egypt is turning from cotton raising to food production. The principal. increases are in wheat barley and ' beans, ~ '
