WAR IN PACIFIC
BRITAIN'S LARGE INTEREST
A British commentator on the BBC stated that there are probably "mpre British people who ,are either prisoners of: war or have been interned as civilians in Japaness hands, than there are in German ■hands." The broadcast used this statement to point out that the British people have a very personal interest in tlie war in the Far East, and are backing up Mr Churchill's promise to help defeat Japan. The commentator added, that by "British" he did not mean the Commonwealth or the Empire, but "people whose homes and whose families are actually here in the British Isles," and the number of said families "must run into the hundreds of thousands."
