WOMEN'S INSTITUTE MEETING
Miss Bowis presided over a good attendance at the February meeting of the Doyleston Women's Institute. The motto was "Don't dodge difficulties, meet them, greet them, beat them," and the roll call, "A Window cleaning hint."
Arrangements were made to pack soldiers' parcels at the next meeting. Nominations for the new committee were handed in at the meeting. A musical competition was won by Miss Mary Greenan.
A musical afternoon, given by Mrs W. E. Doak, L.T.C.L., was thoroughly enjoyed by all the members. Mrs Doak gave several pianoforte solos and explained each item to the members before playing it. She also sang several songs, the accompaniste being Miss McMillan. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mrs Doak for such an enjoyable afternoon.
Competition winners were: Lettuce, Miss Rickerby 1, Mrs Tweedie 2 and 3; large bloom, Mrs Schmack 1, Miss Welsh 2, Miss Greenan 3; small bloom, Miss Greenan 1, Miss Hurford 2, Miss Welsh 3.
For the annual meeting to be held next month, the hostess will be Mrs R. McLachlan, Mrs Johnson and Miss Hurford.
