TENNIS

The finals of the women's singles and combined doubles in the Lincoln handicap tennis tournament have been played. The challenge cup for the handicap singles was won by Miss Norma Peryman, second on the Lincoln ladder and one of the club's most promising players. The handicap combined doubles were won by Miss J. Hewton and Mr J. Hardy, Mr and Mrs R. Suckling being the runners-up. Following are the scores:

Final women's singles: Miss N. Peryman (plus 5) beat Miss J, Hewton (-20), 61-56.

Semi-final combined doubles: Mr and Mrs R. Suckling (plus 18) beat

Miss M. Peryman and C. Moody

(plus 18), 61-51; final, Miss Hew- - ton and Hardy (-15) beat Mr and Mrs Suckling (plus 18), 61-56. ; Semi-final men's singles: S. Duff (-20) beat C. Boys (plus 20), 61-51. The final match is to be played between Suckling and Duff. SOCIAL There was a good attendance at a social evening held by the Lincoln Patriotic Dance Committee in aid of its funds. The music for dancing was played by Mr J. W. Stewart's Orchestra and Miss Marie Mills played the supper extras. Mr Gordon Ryan was M.C. and a Monte Carlo was won by Miss Hazel Garland and Mr Ken Gallagher. Mr Chas. Howell superintended the cards and successful players were Mr and Mrs R. T. Court and Mr C. Court. WOMEN'S INSTITUTE Mrs A. H. Button presided over a good attendance at a meeting of the Lincoln Women's Institute on Tuesday. A dainty afternoon tea was served by Miss Irene Woods and helpers. The roll-call, "My favourite flower and why," was very well responded to. Visitors were welcomed and ndminations were taken for the new committee. Arrangements were also completed for Aunt Daisy's visit today. The wandering shilling competition was won by Mrs Alec Davis.

Greaves: Apple shortcake, Miss j Irene Woods 1, Miss Daphne Moir--2; article made from old felt hats, Miss D. Moir 1, Mrs W. D. Templeton 2, Mrs Cameron 3; large bloom, Mrs Templeton 1, Miss D. Moir 2, Miss I. Woods and Mrs Cameron equal 3; small bloom, Mrs J. W. Stewart l, Mrs Cameron 2, Mrs G. S. Peryman 3.

PERSONAL • Mrs A. Goulding,~ Christchurch, has been the guest of Mrs W. Page, Lincoln. Private V. Greenslade, Burnham, has been the guest-of his parents, Mr and Mrs W. Greenslade, Lincoln, while on leave.

Mrs J. Jordan has returned to Lincoln after a holiday spent as the guest of her son, Mr T. Jordan, Akaroa.

Mr A. J. Lysaght, Walton, who has been the guest of Mr and Mrs W. H. Jordan, Lincoln, recently left for Dunedin,

Mr R. J. Benny, Christchurch, spent a short holiday with his parents, Mr and Mrs Jas. Benny, jun., Lincoln.

Mr C. Court, Waimate, who is at present in camp at Burnham, was the guest of Mr and Mrs R. T. Court, Lincoln, during the weekend!

Miss Violet Thompson, Hornby, recently spent a short holiday as the guest of Mrs G. S% Peryman, Lincoln.

Mr and Mrs R. Suckling, Lincoln, have returned after a short holiday spsnt in Christchurch.

Nurse Clark, who has been the guest of Mrs J. Henry, Lincoln, has returned to Christchurch.

Mr and Mrs R. Thomson have returned to Lincoln after a trip to Nelson.
