WOMEN'S INSTITUTE
The February meeting of. the Springston Women's Institute was held at the home of Mrs G. Smithers, Mrs G. H. Hoskin presiding over a fair attendance. The roll call, "A quick dinner for a Women's institute day," was well responded to.
The competition results were as follows:—Doll in national costume, Mesdames J. Blakemore 1, W. Mounce 2; small bloom, Mesdames W. Leslie 1, J. W. Blakemore 2; large bloom, Mesdames J. Marshall 1, C. N. Powell 2, N. Archbold 3; basket of flowers, Mesdames W. Leslie 1, C. H. Heywood 2, P. V. Bailey 3; ginger cake, Mesdames W. Leslie 1, J. Mutton 2, C. N. Powell 3; wandering shilling, Mrs N. Archbold.
The hostesses were Mesdamjes W. Leslie, G. Smr.thers, J. Blakemore, G. Jones.
Arrangements have been made to resume the patriotic socials early in March. Flag 500 and dancing are to be the forms of amusement.
LADIES' GUILD
The Ladies' Methodist Guild held its eighth annual meeting at the home of Mrs T; Greaves, the Rev. H. Cottom presiding. The election of officers was as follows: President, Mrs E. J. Harris; vice-presi-dents, Mesdames Cottom, A. C. Hamilton and Hoskin; organists, Mesdames H. Fletcher and E. Hoskin; secretary and treasurer, Mrs J. Woods. Mr Cottom thanked all officebearers and members for their successful and harmonious work. The business terminated with a vote of thanks to Mr Cottom. Afternoon tea was served and a competition was won by Mrs W. Keast. A motion of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr J. Hoskin was carried. The hostesses were Mesdames H. Fletcher, W. Leslie and A. C. Hamilton. A vote of thanks was passed to Mrs Greaves for the use of her home.
