THE LAKE
CONSTRUCTION OF PERMANENT
CHANNEL
NO INDICATION WHEN WORK WILL START
That the date of starting work on the construction of the permanent outlet for" Lake Ellesmere was still indefinite, was the information conveyed by a letter from the Minister of Public Works (the Hon. R. Semple) to the Ellesmere Lands Drainage Board. Tills was partly due to the shortage of engineers owing to war enlistments, explained the minister, but mainly due to awaiting the release of 16 miles of rails and other plant in use on other construction works now Hearing completion.
From present indications it would be about six months before the question of starting work could be reviewed, added Mr Semple.
