TROPHIES FOR LEESTON CLUB

TWO CHALLENGE CUPS

At a meeting of the committee of the Leeston Swimming Club held last night, Mr Ron Mercer presented the club with a handsome silver challenge cup.

Mr Owen Grant, president, thanked Mr Mercer on behalf of the club for his generosity and said he was sure that it would stimulate interest in years to come in the club's swimming races. It was decided that the cup would be allotted to the men's series of races undertaken every season. Owing to the lateness this season, however it was decided to hold the races for this year on next Monday and Tuesday evenings. Two races are to be held each evening and timed to start at 7 o'clock. The following are the races to be held on Monday'night:—2s yards freestyle handicap and 50 yards breaststroke handicap. Tuesday's races will be 50 yards freestyle handicap and 25 yards breaststroke handicap. Points are to be allotted as is usual in the President's cup series. Mr Ray Young has promised to donate to the club a challenge cup for the women's series of races. For this year the events will also be held on Monday and Tuesday evenings and the races and distances will be similar to the men's races. The club wishes to record its thanks for. the donation of these two challenge cups and it is hoped, in spite of the lateness of the season, that good entries will be made for the races.
