WOMEN IN COMMAND
RUSSIAN FORCES IN FINLAND
Not only are Russian women doing baby bombing and air fighting with the Red Armies in Finland, but it is also believed that women ,
are fighting as soldiers with the men in the field, states the Sunday Express, London. It is known that in Estonia several Red Army units and batteries are led by women, who are in some cases battalion commanders.
Two or three years ago Soviet women of the Osoviakhim (Home Defence League) asked to be allowed to form women's units in the Red Army.
This was refused; but in September, 1936, Marshal Voroshilov. the commander-in-chief, declared that if Soviet Russia were to be attacked—as now she declares herself attacked by Finland—Soviet citizens, both men and' women, would fight under the Red Flag.
