REFUGEES FROM THE CONTI-
NENT
BEAUTY PARLOURS BUSY
(From The Guardian's London
Correspondent)
LONDON, February 11
London beauty-parlours are busy giving new faces to women refugees from the Continent who can afford the treatment. Known to thousands of these women is Mr Teddy Leon-in charge of a saloon in Soho.
He said this week: , "In the past few months almost a, quarter of my clients have been refugees from Germany and Central Europe. Suffering shows itself chiefly around a .woman's forehead and eyes. Some quite young women have aged, in appearance, from ten to fifteen years because of their experiences. There is a special face-pack for getting rid v of these traces."
In another saloon in the Soho area is a beauty craftsman, whose work for refugees has a grimmer object. A number of his clients have been women who, smuggled out of dictator countries, want to be given new faces—because they are afraid. Thes^. women fear that they will be spier*
on in London. They have one eager, pathetic plea: "Please make me look English." •
