CLOTHES YOUR FRIENDS.

SUGGESTIONS OF CHOICE

Looking back on life—however short it may so far have been—most people will admit willingly that without the help of their friends it would be a pretty difficult business. YM few women realise that their clothes are, potentially, the best friends they can have. They will work for you untiringly. They will make friends for you. They will persuade the world in general to believe exactly what you want it to believe—if only they are given a chance. Colours, of course, are tremendously important. Oh any occasion when you want to look conservative, or formal, or elegant, you cannot go wrong if you choose black. It is the finest possible stand-by, for people do not grow, tired of it, as they do not quickly recognise it again. But it will not make friends for you.

Beige does this, and soft-patterned fabrics, and clear fresh tones that seem to speak of sunshine and to reflect a cheerful disposition.

Grey and stone and fawns are unapproachable unless they have some bright relief, or your own colouring is vivid. Then they can be excellent, for somehow they always make one look—and feel—expensive.

Navy blue is a very sound choice. With crisp touches of white it never fails to look fresh and attractive. With bright' accessories it can be very debonair. It is the chamelon of the fashion world, for it can be adapted to the most frivolous or the most serious occasion.

Therein lies the whole secret. If you want to be sure that your clothes will more" than repay you for the money you have invested in them you must decide beforehand exactly when they are likely to be worn, and you must feel perfectly happy in them. The most genuine compliment you can ever receive is when someone says: "I love you in that hat and dress. It is so exactly you!"
