£50 MATCH

HELD BY ELLESMERE GUN

CLUB.

FIVE COMPETITORS DIVIDE

Twenty-five competitors from the principal gun clubs in North and Mid-Canterbury entered for the Ellesmere Gun Club's annual £50 pigeon match, held on the club's ground, Beetham road, Leeston, on Saturday. A good deal of interest was centred inS the match, many spectators being present. In regard to the weather the club was very fortunate, the conditions prevailing being more like those usually experienced in March than in the latter part of May. The sun shone brightly throughout the afternoon and there was so little wind that the competitors, as well as the spectators, anticipated that the shooting would be comparatively easy. However, pigeons can be fairly tricky, wind or no wind, and quite a number of good shots found them so on Saturday. Among the earlier birds liberated there Was an unduly large proportion of "sitters." Messrs F. Rowell and T. Gordon acted as handicappers, Messrs L. C. Lemon and G. N. Ormandy as referees, and Mr E. Burgess, sen?., as official scorer. Of the five Who shot possibles two were on half nominations, which meant that a share of their prize-money went to the club. The other three each received £10. Afternoon tea was provided by the club. Details of the shooting are as follows:—

remove the cause of war within itself and with other nations and will set an example which other nations will be constrained to follow. If we as individuals fail to act in the crisis which is approaching, we will deserve all that is coming to us, but unfortunately many innocent ones will suffer. I refer to the rising generation which trusts to us to do the right thing.—l am, etc.,
