WOMEN'S INSTITUTE ANNUAL

MEETING.

The annual meeting of the Springston Women's Institute was held in -. the Springston South Hall on Tuesday afternoon, Mrs J. W. Kime presiding. Mrs E. L. Neale, hon. secretary, presented the report and balance-1 sheet. There was a credit of over £4. Mrs Kime, before leaving the chair, thanked all who had helped to make the past year so successful. The roll call, "A funny story" caused much merriment. The election of officers resulted as follows: President, Mrs J. W. Kime; vice-presidents, Mesdames M. F. Ryan and W. Wright; committee, Mesdames G. Mcßean, J. S. Simpson, P. V. Bailey, C. N. Powell, G. Smithers, T. J. Kimber, Misses A. Marshall and N. Smith; social committee, Mesdames P. Riordan, V. E. Harris, W. Greenslade, Misses N. Ryan, M. Kime, M. Hughes, J. Wright and M. Benny. Mrs Wright, on behalf of the Springston ladies, presented the president and secretary with posies, and Mrs Mcßean, on behalf of the Springston South ladies, presented them with bouquets in appreciation of *• their services.

Meetings in future are to be held . on the first Thursday in each month, instead of the second Tuesday. It was decided to send a letter of condolence to Mrs Baker, who is in hospital. Mrs Powell donated a handsome trophy as an aggregate prize for the competitions held during the year. This was won by Miss Grace Rowell, with Mrs J. W. Kime runner-up. The competition winners were: Bowl of flowers, Miss G. Rowell 1, Mrs W. Mounce 2, Mrs N. Powell 3; pot of apple jelly, Miss Sylvia Kimber 1, Mrs Hughes 2, Mrs T. J. Kimber 3. Muhleisen and Harvey acted! as judges. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames N. Powell and H. Mamilton, Misses J. Wright, A. Marshall, F. Mcßean and M. Hughes. The next meeting will be held at j Springston.
