CABLE FROM SMITHFIELD
NEW SEASON'S LAMB 62d TO 7d
A FIRMER DEMAND,
All the quotations for N.Z. lamb and mutton given in the week-end cable message received by the New Zealand Meat Producers' Board from its London manager are for new season's supplies. The message states that the lamb market is firmer with a good demand, the market being helped by the slow rate of discharge of steamers owing to the strike. The market for wethers is steady with ! fair trade, but the demand for ewes is quiet and trade slow. New Zealand beef is being neglected owing to low prices of Argentine chilled. Coldei* weather is stimulating the demand for N.Z. porker pigs, but large supplies of Home-killed continue to come on the market.
Canterbury new season's lamb is quoted as follows: 361bs and under, 6gd; 37 to 421bs, 7d; second quality,, average 331bs, 6|d.
Canterbury crossbred wethers and maiden ewes, 48 to 561bs, 41d; 57 to 641bs, 4|d; 65 to 721bs, 4Jd. Victorian first quality lamb, 361bs and under, sgd; 37 to 421bs, 41d.
