SPRINGSTON
THE WOMEN'S INSTITUTE. The monthly meeting- of the Springston Women's Institute was held in the Public Hall. Miss A. Marshall presided over a large attendance. A demonstration of the making of sachets from organdi muslin was given by Mrs Merry, of Russell's Flat, and of the making of cane trays by Mrs Brockett, of Christchurch. Brisk business was done at a bring and buy stall, Miss J. Wright being in charge. A competition for "Something new from something old" was won by Mrs L. Stace 1, Miss J. Wright 2, Mrs N. Powell 3. Mrs Merry and Mrs Winchester, of Christchurch, acted as judges. Mrs J. S. Simpson, on behalf of the members, thanked Mrs Merry and Mrs Brockett for their interesting demonstrations and Mrs Merry and Mrs Winchester for acting as judges. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames W. Greenslade, N. Archbold and L. Stace.
