PROGRAMME APPROVED.

PRIZES NEARLY £70.

ROAD RACE ABANDONED.

The programme for; the Leeston sports meeting on Easter Saturday, March 26, drafted by the committee appointed last week, was submitted to a general meeting of the Athletic Club last evening and adopted, after discussion. It will be presented to- j morrow night for the Centre's ap-1 proval. I The president, Mr J. <X Free, was I in the chair, and there was again a good attendance. The total amount of th.c prize money, exclusive of trophies;, is £69 11s, divided as follows: Cycling £28 16s, running £33 15s, dancing £6, baby show £1. The three-mile Easter Wheel Race is the cycling event carrying the highest prize money, ££'», £2/10/- and £1/10/-. There is also a three-mile South Island Championship race, with prizes of £3/3/-, £2/2/- and £1/1/-. Other races aije IS miles open, one mile open, one mile district, and two novice races, one of one mile r-_ - and the other of half a mile. The latter was added in place of the novice road race from Christchurch. This, according to Mr N. H. Steele, was not recommended by Mr Phil O'Shea, who was of the opinion that not more than a dozen riders would be likely to enter, and that an additional race at the sports would be more attractive to novices. The principal foot race is the 135 yds. Leeston Handicap, open, for which the prizes are £4, £2 and £1, and the entry fee 4/-. Other athletic events are 100 yds district, 100 yds under 16, 100 yds open [handicap, 440 yds open handicap, 880 yds open handicap, oie mile open handiieap, long jump, iligh jump, putting the shot, married women's' race,, sheep guessing competition, stepping competition, sheaftossing competition, 75, yds members' race. To these it wa,s decided to add a football relay race, with prizes valued at 30/- and 15/-, the second prize to be paid only if there are five or more entries. The dancing events are Irish Jig; Sailor's Hornpipe and Highland Reel, all open, Seann Triubhais under 16, and Highland Fling under 18. Another competition, is a baby show, under 12 months, for which the prizes, 15/- and 5/-, are being donated. Other donations not already acknowledged have been, offered by Mr R. Shave and Mr G. Croat, the latter being for cycling lap prizes. It was decided that entries should close on March 17.

PAYMENT OP SUBSCRIPTIONS. The treasurer, Mr R. G. Power, suggested that all members should be asked to pay their subscriptions (senior 5/-, junior 2/6) immediately, and stated that receipts would be issued at his office. A resolution was carried, on the motion of Messrs J. R. Jackson and R. H. Ford, that tickets of admission should be issued only to those members whose subscriptions were paid. A further proposal was that the subscription receipt should serve as the admittance pass for members. The meeting agreed that any donor of cash or trophies should be regarded as a member; and should not be expected to pay a subscription in addition. TRACK COMMITTEE.

Messrs J. R. Jackson, N. H. Steele, G. Croat and P. J. Kelleher were appointed a track committee for cycling events and Dr. Johnston and Messrs W. McLachlan, R. H. Ford and R. G. Power for running events. GENERAL BUSINESS. A resolution was carried deciding I to^, invite separate tenders for the rights of conducting a refreshment booth, and selling ice-cream, soft drinks, confectionery, fruit and tobacco. It was agreed that the charges should not exceed 2/- for luncheon and 1/- for afternoon tea. The successful tenderer for the refreshment tent will have the right to sell boiling water. With the piping for dancing on the

ground, it was considered that no further music would be required. For the dance in the evening of the sports, it was decided, after consideration of tenders, to engage Slattery's orchestra. It was decided to request Mrs Bohan to act as judge of the baby show. Mr A. A. McMillan was appointed to organise the children's sports, and appointed Mr H. Johnson as assistant. • It was decided to apply for a special train to be run/ to leave Christchurch at 9.15 on the morning of the sports, and to depart at 5.35 in the evening. It was agreed that the next meeting should be held next Tuesday evening.
