RAISING HAIR

CLAIMS OF DOCTORS.

MASKING BALDNESS

Can the bald man grow a fresh crop of hair? Reports have been received from Paris and the United States that this problem, which, has baffled specialists ever since the first man went bald, has been solved. Dr. Raymond Passot, a French specialist, who has carried out 2500 operations for removing facial wrinkles, has published a book entitled "Pui^e Aesthetic Surgery," in which he describes plastic procedure, which he has evolved for the masking of baldness and for the provision of new eyebrows and eyelashes. Simultaneously, it is reported that an American doctor has evolved a new treatment for baldness, consisting of the injection of extracts of pituitary gland. He is said to have had remarkable success with certain types of bald-headed men; and although his treatment has been in use for a little while only, the general impression is definitely favourable. These reports have been sceptically received by the medical profession in England; the general verdict is that in the absence of more explicit information the case for the cure of baldness is "not proven." One specialist to whom a "Morning Post" representative announced the discoveries, said: "If a cure for baldness has really been found, it is the most important event in the world of aesthetic surgery that has happened for generations. Ever since the dawn of civilisation doctors have been seeking an effective remedy for baldness. Julius Caesar is said to have worn a laurel wreath on his forehead to conceal his baldness, and many other great men, who have achieved every one of their ambitions, have yet been unable to avert baldness. All sorts of experts have given and are still giving their attention to this problem, but so far their efforts have come to nothing. "Personally, I would be inclined to suspend judgment on the latest discoveries until it has been definitely shown that bald men regain their hair—and keep it."
