METHODIST CHURCH
ANNIVERSARY CONCERT.
Thanks to the kindly interest and valued assistance of Mr. W. Melville Lawry, of Christehurch, who organised the party, a concert of very high merit was given in the Leeston Methodist Church on Wednesday evening-to celebrate the* church anniversary. Although the notice given was very short, there was a fairly good attendance and those who turned out were rewarded by a very fine evening's enjoyment. The Rev. G. P. Hunt introduced the party. Accompanying Mr Lawry were Misses Jessie Duff (soprano), Dorothy Spiller (.contralto) and " Lucy Cowan (elocutionist), and Messrs W. J. Spratt (bass) and W. Hudson (tenor). The programme comprised solos, duets, quartets, monologues and recitations, all of which were thoroughly enjoyed.
At the conclusion, Mr A. E. Brown, secretary of the Trust Board, moved a vote of thanks to the performers which was carried with loud applause. Messrs Lawry and L. R. Barnett kindly motored the party out from town. Before returning they were entertained to supper by the ladies in Wesley Hall.
Mrs Ducat and Miss Eaglesome. At the conclusion of the concert, supper was handed around, after which a dance was held, the music being supplied by Messrs L. Stace and A. B. P. Nuttall.
