NEW AUSTIN PRICES

FURTHER SUBSTANTIAL

REDUCTIONS.

Evidence of a determination on the part of the Austin Motor Company, of Birmingham, England, to capture a still larger share of the motor car business in New Zealand is to be found in the new list of very substantially reduced prices, just issued. It was generally thought that prices had got down to bedrock after the reductions made a year ago, but the perfect factory organisation and huge output have apparently made it possible to produce the Austin at a still lower figure. The works of the company cover as much land as the average farm in this district —220 acres to be correct. Considering- that the Austin car is a British product of very high quality, which can be depended upon to give twice the service of the average car, it is very remarkable indeed that such low prices are possible. A big feature about the Austin which is impressing itself upon owners more as ~ time goes on is the fact that it costs practically nothing to maintain for the first five or six years of service, beyond the actual outlay in tyres, oil and petrol, and the Austin is almost the last word in reliability and economy. Another point of particular interest is the fact that a used Austin invariably brings a good price when offered for sale, mainly because of the quality, but also partly because it keeps its good appearance for so many years. That the Austin is growing rapidly in popularity was shown a short time ago when the sales ?or a half-year period were third on the list for the Dominion.

Messrs David Crozier, Ltd., the Austin distributors, report that the new prices are as follow: 7 h.p. tourer, £178, saloon £205; 12 h.p. (actually 13.9 h.p.) tourer £345, saloon £435; 16 h.p., 6-eylinder, tourer £395, saloon £495; 20 h.p. 4-cylinder, saloon £675; 20 h.p. 6-cylinder, saloon £770. The Windsor saloon, which is the popular enclosed model for the average motorist, has been reduced by £30. Although described as a 12, it is almost 14 h.p. The Austin models stand out as easily the best value in high grade English cars offering in the Dominion at present.
