HANNIBAL'S GREAT RECORD
Hannibal, of Carthage, was one of the great soldiers of ancient times. In 217 8.C., when 29 years of age, he led an army of 100,000 across the Mediterranean Sea to Spain, and then marched his force over the Alps into Italy. Only 26,000 men remained with Hannibal, and yet for 15 years he maintained a war against Rome. He was finally compelled to return to Carthage, was defeated in the battle of Zama, 202 8.C., and finally committed suicide
in Syria,
