ELLESMERE GUN CLUB

SUCCESSFUL SEASON ENDED,

PRESENTATION OF TROPHIES

The annual dance of the Ellesmere Gun Club, held last evening in the Lakeside Hall, marked the termination of one of the most successful seasons in the Club's history. It lia,s been a season of victories for the Ellesmere team, when matched agains,t other teams in Canterbury and a season of noteworthy performances in individual shoots, where the standard of marksmanship has approached almost perfect accuracy. It was a proud occasion for the Club when its team brought home for the season the Vale sparrow shield, but the crowning honour was the winning by a decisive score of the C.A.C. clay-bird cup in competition with four other clubs. In coming finally to Ellesmere the cup found itself in no strange home, for it had been won ten times previously in preliminary matches over several years.

A large concourse of residents from far and near joined with the members of the Club in their jubilation and made the hall a scene of high jollity. Dancing to the music of Maedonald's orchestra, the members and their guests passed a pleasurable night. The' trophies won in the season's programme of Club shoots were presented to the winners, upon whom were showered the hearty congratulations of all assembled. The president, Mr L. C. Lemon, in a facetiously-worded speech, expressed, a welcome, to the numerous friends of the Club who had gathered to honour the winners. It was gratifying to the Club, he said, to have such a host of supporters. He particularly thanked those Vho had donated trophies for competition. The trophies made a valuable collection, and each had brought forth keen competition on the shooting ground. It was the liberality of these | donors that helped the Club to flourish. !Mr Lemon referred to the Club's successes in team shoots this season. The C.A.C. cup would be highly valued, for one reason, on account of its cost to the Club in money and in expenditure j of shooting skill. Ten shoots for the cup had been contested by the Club before the final match, and the average cost of each shoot was about £5. Both the cup and the Vale shield were on display.
