CLEVER SKIN GRAFTING.

Clever surgery, wftereby live skin has been taken from a man and grafted on to the body of his little son, has just been performed in Leeds Infirmary. The son of Mr George Dennis Calvert, a postal official, was admitted to the institution suffering from severe burns to the back. To effect a cure, an oper ation for skin-grafting was imperative. The father volunteered to supply the necessary skin, which was taken from one of his legs, and, with lightning-liko rapidity, was grafted on to the raw wounds of the child.

To recover from the effects of the operation, Mr Calvert had to remain in the infirmary for a fortnight, and by that time the transferred skin had tak ■

en .root in the boy, and was making growth daily. A second grafting, however was found necessary, and Mr Calvert submitted to a still larger piece of skin being taken from him and trans forred to his son.
