DOYLESTON SUNDAY SCHOOL

For over thirty years the late Mr John Barnett conducted at Doylestcn one of the largest Sunday schools in the Ellesmere district. For a long time it was the only Sunday school held at Doyleston, and although it was carried on under the control of the Methodist Church, the roll contained the names of I many children belonging to other denominations. The school prospered under the late Mr Barnett's superintendence, and he was greatly loved and respected by the pupils and the people of the district. His mantle has siuce fallen upon his grandson, Mr Russell Barnett, who is performing the duties of superintendent in a most satisfactory manner. The roll number is still very large and excellent work is being done by a devoted staff of teachers.

The anniversary concert and prizegiving is always an interesting event that is looked forward to with pleasure by the children and their parents. This function took place in the Sunday school room on Tuesday night, and was a decided success in every way. There was an excellent attendance and the evening proved most enjoyable. A xe-j markably good programme of items was| given by the children, who delighted the audience with their reciting and singing. Several very young children performed exceedingly well, and altogether the programme reflected the greatest credit upon the children and especially upon the teachers, who ha.l evidently taken great pains to train, the young folk very thoroughly. That the items were greatly enjoyed was evident from the liearty applause. Several good items were given by grown-ups. W. Hewitt; drill, girls; recitation, Vera Lochhead; songs, Madge Ebert; recitation, Leah Bray; recitation, Maurice Fomison; song, Miss W. Green; nursery rhymes, girls and boys; song, Miss M. Bade; recitation, Harry Fomison; recitation, Stanley Quartermaine; song, Miss McLaehlan; recitation, Maggie Bray; song, Miss Hilda Barnett; recitation, Percy Quartermaine; song, Mr Les ter Eade.

The Rev A. O. Harris, who presided, congratulated the teachers and children upon the all-round excellence of the programme submitted and commented upon the good work the teachers were doing. On his motion the teachers were accorded a very hearty vote of thanks.
