The Late Mr John Lochhead.

Ample evidence of the very high regard in which the. late Mr John Lochhead was held, not only by residents of this district but by people in other parts of Canterbury, was afforded by the very large attendance at the funeral, which took place on Wednesday afternoon. The cortege numbered over eighty vehicles, including some twenty or more 'motor cars, every part of the EUesmere district being represented, and there were many others from i Christchurch and other parts "^tf Canterbury. The interment took place in the Presbyterian portion of the Ellesaiere Public Cemetery, the Rev. G. Lindsay, of Southbridge, conducting the burial service. The pall bearers were Messrs Robert, David, James and Walter Lbchhead (brothers of the deceased), A. Holmes (cousin), and Herbert E. Fincham. The EUesmere County Council, of which the late Mr Lochhead was a member for nine years, was represented by Councillors J. Cunningham (chairman), J. Storry, T. A. Stephens, J. C. Free, and F. J. Lemon, and the engineer (Mr Alex. Webster). The EUesmere A. and P. Association and various other local bodies were well represented, and there were also a number of gentlemen present representing some of the Christchurch auctioneering and other commercial firms. Among those who sent beautiful wreaths were the following:—Mr David T. Matson, Mr and Mrs job Osborne, Mr and Mrs H. Schnelle, Major and Mrs Over ton, Mr and Mrs A. Holmes, the members of the Ellesmere County Council, Leeston Bowling, Tennis, and Croquet Club, and the late Mr Lochhead's brothers.
