School Committee.

SEDGEMERE. The quarterly meeting of the Sedgemere School Committee "was held am the schoolroom on Tuesday evening last. There were present :— Messrs H Schnell, (chairman) J Lochhead, A McLaughlih, E Manson and W Ash. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The chairman reported that during the quarter the receipts had amounted to &3 1 7s 9d and the expenditure to £$o 6s 6d, also that early m August the supply of fuel had run out, and a further supply had been ordered. Two new easels were needed for the use of the school, which has been for warded on to; Southbridge by the Board on application. Correspondence was read as follows:~From the Board m reference j to the election of a committee. From same, m reply to a request for a number of trees for planting on Arbor Day, and stating that a ioo trees would be sent From same asking for the names of cemmitteemen, so that the roll could be compiled for the purpose of holding the annual election of members of the Education Board. , The names had been supplied. The quarterly returns for the June quarter showed that the roll number was 25, and the average attendance 22. From D Aiken, enclosing account for coal and wood. It was decided that it be paid. A letter was read from the teacher Mrs Metherell, protesting against the action of one of the residents of the district m removing two girls from the school and sending them to Lakeside. It was pointed out that the girls m question had not attended half time ; consequently they could not be expected to make satisfactory progress. The majority ot the committee, however, were of opinion that the teacher had not been fairly treated m the matter. It was proved that pupils who had attended with a fair show of regularity had made good progress, but m the present- instant neither teacher nor pupil had been given a chance. The Inspector's Report which was considered very satisfactory was read. Following are the Inspector's general remarks:— " The efficiency of the school as estimated by the results of examination ranges from very fair to satisfactory. St. sis on the whole a class of pleasing quality In St 4 the pupils have attempted work beyond their powers at present, and are unfit for promotion.
