Ellesmere A. & P Association
A meeting of the committee of the above was held on Tuesday afternoon. The President (Mr Wm McMillan) occupied the chair, and there was an attendance of 20 committeemen. NEW MEMBERS The following new members were elected:- Messrs R W Lochhead (Lincoln), P Andrew (Springston), C Brice (Christchurch), and C S Neville (Leeston) ! CHAMPION RIBBON. After considerable discussion the motion of Mr H F Wright regarding champion ribHon for each class of stock was lost. Mr Henderson suggested that a champion ribbon should be given to the champion draught entire and mare. He moved la that direction. Mr Watson seconded, and the motion was carried. TENDERS; Tenders were then' considered, and the following accepted for show day: — Band:— Ellesmere Brass Band for £7 (to find their own lunch). Publican's Booth:— Joseph Gaskin (Springston) £8. THE GOODS TRAIN Mr A Chamberlain again brought up the matter of the carriage being ptjt op tb.e goods train to and from Southbridge daily. Efy what he understood when' the Minister of Railways had been approached about a month ago, his consent to the arrangement had been received. The chairman explained that he and Mr Henderson had t with Mr Rhodes interviewed Sir Joseph Ward at Wellington regarding the matter, and that gentleman had
promised to give the matter his early attention. The Secretary reported that he had since had a letter from Sir Joseph Ward to -the- effect that the concession required was not practic- . able. ' . -. . ; The chairman maintained that the matter should again be brought' before the Minister and Mr Rhodes, and Mr Chamberlain concurred. The meeting was of the same opinion SHOW IMPROVEMENTS The Secretary was authorised, to make several improvements qn , the show grounds, including which wafc one for the better accommodation of the eporters Several minor mitters of importance Inving been discussed, and accou ;ts p.issed for payment the meeting uljourned.
