Ellesmere Road Board.

, — ♦ The ordinary monthly meeting of the above was held m the district office, Leeston, on Monday 2nd Oct. Present:— Messrs Wm McMillan (chairman), Robert Lochhead, John Gilbert, Edward Ruddock and James Storry. Correspondence was read and dealt with as follows: — Petition from Dr Gosset and three others asking, for the forming and shingling of Chervier Street, Leeston It was decided to call for tenders for "the forming of this street, Teturnable next sale day. On the motion of the Chairman, seconded by Mr it was resolved that the Overseer ask Mr MeIlraith to meet him on the spot and confer as to the race water brought to this point and report at next meeting. The Clerk ot the Bakaia Road Board asked if the Board would be willing to join m the ex pen -e of a sheep bridge over the ford between Dunsandel and Selwyn, at an estimated cost of £y. On the motion of Mr Lochhead seconded by Mr Gilbert it was resolved that the Board join the Rakaia Road Board m the expense of a sheep bridge over the ford as requested by Mr Sowden. Mr H Boyle, Ellesmere, wired calling the Board's attention to the bad state of McGregors ford on the Selwyn. On the motion of the chairman the overseer was authorised to put m order as soon as the river is down. ■'■■.'. SHINGLE ELEVATOR. On the motion of the chairman seconded by Mr Lochhead the clerk was instructed to write to Mr.Quealy and obtain particulars of the shingle elevator m use by the 5 Little River Road Board, and as to its satisfaction m working, and also as to when this Board could see the machine at work.. : ; Plans and estimates from Mr H H Cook of an elevator and shingle waggon for shingling roads, were laid before the Board and considered. On the motion of the chairman, seconded by Mr Storry, it was resolved that Mr Cook be thanked for his trouble and be informed that the Board will investigate the whole question of a suitable machine for the purpose. ■ , RIVER ENCROACHMENT. On the motion of Mr Lochhead, seconded by Mr Gilbert, it, was resolved that the action of the chairman m having the river encroachfenced off by Boswell's, Selwyn be approved of. , overseer's report. . The overseer's report was read and considered. ■ \ On the motion of the .chairman seconded by Mr Gilbert it was re solved that the overseer take steps immediately to put m the first proceed ye groin, m the Selwyn, at Boswells, as agreed upon, and also the other two, as soon as the river permits. <, On the motion of the chairman, seconded by ; Mr Storry it was resolved that the Board will ,meet Mr Overton m widening, and deepening 13 chains outfall drain on Johnston's road to the extent of 5s per cnain, and that the Board will further pay one half the cost of keeping" the drain cleaned out. ' Oil the proposition of Rlr Storry^ seconded by Mr Ruddock it wasxe-r solved that the overseer inspect all the reserves and properties of the Board, and to «ti force the conditions 'of lease with respect to clearing oft all gorse and broom before the expiration of lease. --,;• DEPUTATIONS. Messrs Needham and Bowis/ Doyleston; saw the Board complaining of the dam m Mr Millar's land, below the Lake Road, stopping the ! free flow of water "and injuringrtheir property. It was decided to give Mr Graham notice to remove the obstructions at once. Mr Bowis called attention to the wantof a bridge and concrete culvert over the drain at the"' junction of Bruce's vand Harraan's roads. The Board resolved to visit the spot and consider the' question. Mr F Thian, Taum Uu, sought assistance from the Board for cleaning the outfall drain on his property. It was decided that the overseer let the work on best terms,; Mr Thian agreeing to pay half Jhe cost. Messrs Coe and Maddock interviewed the Bo>ard and asked for a concrete culvert through Maddock's private road on the line of Woody 3reek drainages. The Board decided
