A deputation from the Swimming Club consisting of Mr A A Penfold (secretary) and Captain Riordan interviewed the Board on the subject of arranging terms for the ensuing season. Mr Penfold said that the Club

was willing to pay £4 and a donation j °f £> 2 providing the membership , exceeded 50, which was very prob- : \ able. He outlined the business of ■ the deputation/ • I Mr Riordan said that the Club could not guarantee anything. If they had a good financial year they would pay the extra £2. Mr Twiss asked that th« minutes bearing/on the subject be read. Mr Penfold questioned the correct ness of the minute 3, stating that one word altered the whole meaning. By dropping the word " season " the Board were using a technical error { to obtain another £2 out of the Club after them paying m all £9 15s to the Board. He was quite clear that : financial year was the term that was i meant. The Club had paid the sum ,'°f >£<Mss to the Board iast-year. The Club had no say m the seats that had been put up, and if the Club were not fostered the seats would be a white elephant. Mr Woods was quite prepared to ■swear that the minutes were correct. , Mr Andrew was of the same opinThe deputation withdrew. . . ' A general discussion then ensued * on the subject. ; Mr Chapman did not want to see ; the Club crushed; the place would , only deteriorate. ' Mr Smith favoured meeting the Club half way. He looked upon £1 \ as for better than nothing. * Mr Andrew was against that. A promise should not be broken, and * while the Club had a credit balance J he maintained they should pay the . £2. He moved m that direction , which the chairman seconded. ' Mr Chapman moved as an amend* ■ ment that the Club be asked to pay . £1. That would be meeting them half way. Mr Twiss seconded, and said that ; seeing the Club had not a big credit balance he agreed with Mr Smith „ and. Mr Chapman to meet them half " way. s Mr Andrew said that the credit balance was jQ6 odd. The chairman remarked that the bath was a big item for the Board to meet. . Mr Smith contended that if the Club ' had had bad days last year there would have been no finance at all. If a wet day came for their sports they could not pay the £2. On a division the voting was equal The chairman then gave his casting vote m favour of the motion which was carried. . The question of terms for letting -the Bath, was then discussed* Mr Andrew moved that the conditions as submitted be not accepted by the Board. , Mr Smith seconded. 'VMr Twiss moved that the Bath be let at £$ for the coming season. . Mr Woods seconded. 1 Mr Twiss remarked that if- the j Boardgot half down and half m threemonths it should do. Mr Andrew thought that if the Club .had £4 now was the time to collar it. There was a deal of expense over the bath.
