FfiOM OtTE CoEBESPONDENT. A general meeting of the Sedgemere school committee was held m the schoolroom on Friday evening. Present — Messrs Howson (chairman), Gr. Cooper, J. Hay* on, J. McMahon, J. Locbhead, and H. Schnell. An apology for absence was received from Mr X evin, owing to i'lheßlth. Correspondence bearing upon different matters m connection with the school wad read and dealt with. The Board of Education notified the committee that a register stove had been forwarded to the school. It may be stated that as tho chimney of the school is very defective, it was decided at a ji^vious meeting of tho committee to request the Board to remedy the matter by placing a register m the fire-place, and then to brick up the open front.. This, however, the Board had refused to do, and a strong . resolution was passed by the committee protesting against the action of tho Board. — The resolution had the desired effect. The chairman reported that several repairing jobs about the school and grounds had been attended to. The schoolmaster reported, that the Inspector's examination had taken place during the week, and the result had been very satisfactory. The attendance, how,-, over, was anything but good. The report * showed that during the last two years the average child had only attended on two school days out of every three. The parents of a family living near the Beach had been interviewed m respect to the irregular attendance of their children, and on the undertaking that they would be more regularly \._sent m future, no further action was 4^ taken. The usual week's holiday after the examination was granted, and to meet the desires of the master, was to be held m the last week m Octobar. It was decided to hold a concert and dance m about a month or six week's time, the proceeds of same to be m aid of the prize .fund.
