LARRIKINISM AT LEESTON.
(To the Editor.)
Sib, — I wish to draw the attention of thoEe who are responsible for the dis graceful conduct of some young men and boys m the streets of Leeston. Some time ago The Guaedian made an example of some Southbridge lads by publishing their names. Their conduct, no doubt, warranted such a step, and the conduct of (he gutter-snipes of Leeston does not deserve any greater toleration. Young women and girls are attacked by ihese villninous young blackguards, who address the vilest language to them. Some of the lad* are only ten years of age, and as many as four of these young imps followed a respectable young woman to the very gate of her employer, running after her and occasionally pulling at her arm, at the same time using language unfit for anyone to hear. This sort of thing has happened many times lately. On more than one occasion young men have followed girls when the latter have been alone, and have actually laid hands on them and made vile suggestions to them. One evening a young woman was attacked by a thing m clothes that was intended for a man, and the poor girl nearly fainted with fear, but eventually she ran for it and made her escape. Sir, where is the law P I would suggest a trainingship for such hopelrss cases as these lads are, or fifty lashes with a military lash. The names of the younger lads are known, and probably they will have to appear before the magistrate. — I am, etc., Pbo Bono Pcblico.
