LATEST NEWS Mr Winston Churchill is at present in Paris and yesterday he spoke to the French people over the air. Hundreds of British and American bombers are keeping up a constant and deadly attack on German towns in the Ruhr when 2,700 tons of bombs were dropped. Hundreds of planes based on the Meditteranean also bombed targets in Northern Italy and Austria. The German Home Guard is being sent to the front The Russian steam roller is battering forward on a wide front and one army is within 4 miles of Budapest, whilst another is well inside the Prussian border. The Americans have gained ground on the Phillipines. Despite stubborn resistance, both the British and Canadian armies are slowly, but steadily, advancing. In one sector a fierce German counter-attack pushed the. Americans back two miles. In Italy both the sth & Bth Armies have made important advances, but bad weather is slowing up operations.
