NURSERIES IN AIR LINERS
LONG JOURNEYS BY CHILDREN Places have been booked for a two-year-old baby boy and his father in the Imperial Airways liner which leaves Basra tomorrow (says ‘The Times’ of recent date 1. The child’s mother died recently at- Abadan, and the baby is to be brought home to its grandparents in Glamorgan. It should reach Croydon on Tuesday just before noon after travelling a distance of some 3.000 miles, mostly by air. . , The bi rT liners of Imperial Airways have provided "nurseries for children on two long journeys recently. A party of five children belonging to two families were taken from Athens to Bagdad. The youngest was three weeks old, and the eldest was only four rears of age. They crossed to Alexandria in one of the big flying boats From Cairo to Bagdad they were given the forward saloon of the Hannibal as the* nursery They and their mothers made the long journey in comfort, the youngest member of the party having its crad e throughout. Other passengers occupied the rear example of families travelling by air occurred when Sir Hubert Young went to take up his duties as Governor of Nyasaland From Cairo to Kisumu, he, with Lady Young, three children and a nurse, travelled in one of the big air liners and had the exclusive use of the forward compartment. At the lakes they transferred to a machine of the Hercules class which took them to Salisbury, where their route diverged from the main line. They completed their journey in three Puss Moth cabin aeroplanes of the Rhodesian Aviation Company. , , , Imperial Airways have accepted such incidents as fresh tribute to the comfort and quietness of their biggest machines. On a recent service in Africa two of the passengers were over seventy years of age. Beta the very veiling and the old are reported as satisfied passengers, and the company has taken credit to itself for pleasing the most exacting of its customers.
