THE SOUTHERN CROSS

The visit of the Southern Cross to Cromwell on Thursday last attracted what must have been easily the biggest crowd ever assembled in Central Otago, every part of the district being represented from Ranfurly to the Lakes district Two special trains were run from Maniototo carrying approximately 800 passengers, the northerh centres being catered for by way.of Motor buses. The big plane arrived at about 11 a.m. and was escorted into the ground by the Southern Cross Kitten piloted by Squadron leader White. After the official welcome flights were commenced and Sir Charles had a busy time coping with the heavy bookings as did the two smaller planes. The weather was ideal for such an occasion and the big crowd was kept interested throughout The Management are to be congratulated on the way affairs were run as everything passea off without a hitch- The Naseby Band were in attendance and played appreciable music throughout the day.
