BOWLING.
Ladies Day on the Clyde Bowling Green on Wednesday last was held in glorious weather, and it was generally voted a great success. There was a full green, sixteen ladies taking part. The tourney was played in sections, each player getting at least three games of half an hour each. The afternoon was a warm one and the competitors must have had quite enough bowls for one afternoon. However there was much merriment, and some quite good bowling- Hie winner turned up in Mrs E. W. George, with Mrs Holt runner up; Miss Irvinc.(a visitor from Nightcaps) having the honour of winning the booby. In presenting the prizes the president (Dr. Brokenshire) congratulated the winners on their success) and thanked the ladies for their excellent services to the club during the season. He called for three cheers which were heartily given- Mrs Aitken replied for the ladies, remarking that they had only been too pleased to help and she thanked the gentlemen for giving them such a splendid afternoon- She called for three cheers for the gentlemen, and the response was a vigorous one. The afternoon tea, was served and supplied by the men. Of course, it was great. The Oamaru tournament is to be held at Easter as usual. This time only one rink (J. Holt, P Edmonds, R. N. Paulin and J. Davidson) is going from Clyde. Local bowlers will be interested to learn that the Arrowtown bowling green that has been out of commission for some years, has been taken up again and top dressed. It is hoped chat the green will be in playing order for next season.
