Vincent’s runaway win against Tuapeka at Cromwell on Saturday, must have been a surprise to many, particularly In view of the fact that five players who recently found inelusidn in the combined team at Dunedin, were not available. These were Nicholson, Waldron, F. and J. Donnelly, and Marslin. Tuapeka too was not represented by its full strength, which may account for their indifferent showing- The winners however, played well, and the standard of football was quite good. The Green forwards gave a line showing and secured the ball from practically •very scrum- A feature of the game was the wonderful place-kicking by Jack Hannay- He converted the first six tries—none of them easy, and a couple from the touchline—while he also put over a penalty, scoring exactly half the points for bis side. The day was beautifully fine and there was a fair crowd of spectators. The teams lined out as follows : Vincent {(Green) Full-back —GecJ Hesson; X> J- Hannay, A. Alexander, Gibson ; $, R. Campbell, T. Clouston ; 4, Beilby; forwards, Jelley, Campbell, P. Moran, W. Clouston, Carline, N, Kinnaird, Lawrie, Quinn. Tuapeka (Bed)— Full-hack, D. Inglis $(. McPherson, D. Manuel, L. Jopson; Pollock, L. Manuel; b G. Toms ; Forwards —J. Brady, Gott, Beaufort, B. Gollop, A. Patterson, L. Sheehy, B. Morrison, J. Jackman.

Immediately after the start Alex~ ander was responsible for good play but Inglis secured and got in a useful punt. Hesson centred and Hannay carried on to the Red’s 25- A good rush by the visitors penetrated well jn to the home territory, where Tom Clouston came to the rescue and Jack Hannay improved with a great line finder that gained 40 yards. The Reds retaliated vigorously, Patterson and Sheehy being prominent, but Bob Campbell sent them back and Bill Clouston made a clever opening for Hannay, who ran it to score. The icorer converted Vincent 5; Tuapeka 0. Jackman was penalised for offside and Hannay made a good attempt to goal- A strong Green forward rush was well stopped by Inglis who marked but Pat Moran was twice in quick succession instrumental in putting the home team on attack. Beilby made a jfonh and passed to Clouston who went over, but a five yards scrum was ordered. The Greens kept up the pressure and from a forward Jrush Lawrie scored' Hannay converted. Vincent 10, Tuapeka 0, The Greens were regularly getting the ball from the scrum, and their half was making good use of it. Lawrie again came into the picture, making a good opening for Bill Clouston to score. Hannay again goaled. Vincent 15, Tuapeka 0 ICinnaird sent out from a line out and the backs swung into action. Pollock and Inglis were conspicuous for good defensive work, and there was planty to do, the home team going well. Hesson saved from a solid forward rush, and Hannay made a great eibrt to kick a penalty from halfway. Beilby sent Hannay away on the blind side, and ho ran strongly to the corner. A freekick for offside gave the visitors temporary relief, but the Greens were soon back and Kinnaird scored from a forward rush. The consistent Hannay kicked a great goal Vincent 20, Tuapeka 0. Patterson was playing well for the visitors, and he started a nice rush from which Manuel might have scored Jelley and Bill Clouston broke away, aad clever play by Tom Clouston and Bob Campbell, saw the latter score a nice try. It was no trouble to Hannay to convert

Time was now nearly up, put Vincent was not yet finished. Kinnaird, started a passing which ended in Jelley sending Beilby over to score. Hannay’s attempt to convert was spoiled, the ball rolling over as he was about to kick.

The game then ended Vincent 36, Tuapeka 8. OMr R- Thomas was referree. Vincent team all played well, and it would be difficult to pick any out for special mention. Of the visitors backs, all of whom verc safe, Pollock and Inglis were outstanding. Patterson and Sheehy were Jb#it of the forward#.
