THE TOLL OF SHIPPING.
Stormy weather took a heavy toll of dxips last year. The annual report of the Liverpool Underwriters’ Association shows a total loss of 187 ships, as against 174 in the previous year, representing a gross tonnage of 418,410, as against 342,129. These ships included 45 British steamers and six sailing vessels and 105 foreign steamers and 31 foreign sailing ships.
