A RECORD TITIAN.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art announces that its first purchase from the funds bequeathed by Mr Frank Munscy, the New York publisher, is Titian’s portrait of “Alfonso D’Este, Duke of I'errara,” which was discovered a year ago in a chateau near Dijon, France. A Central News cable says the price paid, out of the £5,000,(XX) Munscy bequest, for this Titian is believed to be in tho region of £200,000. If tiie highest estimates of the figure prove correct, this will be a record price for a painting purchased by any museum. Titian was at the Court of Ferrara in 1516 and later, as the guest of the ruling d’Estc family, of which Alfonso was the head.
