It is sometimes overlooked that if there are British residents in China there is also a far bigger Chinese population in British territory. I/ver 5,100 Chinese are resident in the British Isles, and over 1,580,000 within the British Empire. In Canada alone there are over 40,000, or nearly three times as many as the total number of British subjects in the whole of China.
