CURLING
The ancient game of curling, which originated in Scotland, is now popular in England and in Canada, and has a good foothold in Oiago, is this week uttering its annual call in this part of the world. Active preparations are being made and practice indulged in at Alexandra, Otnrehua, Naseby, Lauder, Cambrians, and St. Bathans. A message this morning announces that the ice is particularly for the game at Lauder, and thither went Mr R. S. Black, who is president of the Rough Ridge (Oturehua) curling club, to meet other curlers from various parts who wish to get into form for the bonspiel at Nase by on Tue day of next week. At Naseby the conditions are all that could be desired—a big pond that is shallow, a superior constancy in the weather, the altitude being appreciable, and arrangements that are proper for the game in its rigor. Our Otago people are fortunate in Raving such advantages within easy reach. In years to come this district may become for New Zealand what Switzerland is for Europe. Dunedin ‘Star’
