Her maiden name was Mabel Davey, and she was born at Wood Green. Her parents were in humble circumstances, and there is no mention on her birth certificate of the name de V-ere, which has since been used by Mme. Casares. It was in Paris that she met Senor Emilio Casares, jun. This young English girl, Mabel Davey, was strikingly beautiful, with deep blue eyes, auburn hair, and an exceptional figure. A strong attachment sprang up between the wealthy Argentinian and Miss Davey, and they wore married. The Casares family were openly opposed to the engagement and the wedding, and, after the marriage, Senor Emilio ensures ceased to be a member of the business in which he was partner with his father.

The young couple moved to England after their wedding, and lived in n large house called Bucklands, near Wat lord. They entertained a great deal. There was a series of dinners and dances at home and in town, and weekend parties at Bucklands. Mine. Gloria Casares became a prominent figure in the Watford district. She owned a conspicuous white limousine motor car, in which she would drive to her parties in London, wearing beautiful clothes and expensive jewels. Disagreements arose between husband and wife, with temporary separations and reconciliations. The final break came about six years ago, when Senor Emilio Casares jnn. returned to Buenos Aires. Since then Mine. Casares has lived mainly in England with frequent visits to Paris and the South of France.
